Hey there, I’m Martin! I had my first contact with the TYPO3 community through mittwald, where I built my first TYPO3 site in 2004 and attended my first TYPO3 conference in 2009. In the time since then, I’ve had various roles at mittwald, from ranging from software engineering, devops, platform architecture, product strategy and developer advocacy & evangelism — all of which aimed (in many different ways) at making open Source CMS and e-commerce platforms more accessible and more easily available. My current role at mittwald allows me to combine product strategy and DevRel full-time, enabling me to spend a significant amount of time in the TYPO3 community, but also granting me insights into the larger Open Source CMS community as a whole.
Besides mittwald, I also regularly teach university courses in Information Management, Software Engineering and Cloud Computing in Vechta and Diepholz, have (co-)authored multiple books and am a regular author in magazines like the t3n magazine.
I have been an active member of the TYPO3 community for years; not only has the community accompanied me through decades of my own professional development, but I’ve always felt warm-heartedly welcomed and met many people with which I have not only formed professional relationships, but also personal friendships.
In this light, my motivation for putting myself up for the TYPO3 Association Board is twofold: From a personal perspective, I want to give back to a community that has also given me a lot over the years. But I also believe in the potential of TYPO3 and its community as one of the few prime examples of true, democratic Open Source. Its community is what gives TYPO3 a unique position in an ever-changing world where digital sovereignty through Open Source becomes more and more important...
...which is why I want to do my part in helping TYPO3 to fully realize this potential. To achieve this, and to firmly establish TYPO3 as a cornerstone of digital sovereignty for both the public and private sectors, we need strong advocacy and a clear product strategy. In this regard, I believe that, with my expertise in developer experience and education, I can help TYPO3 in becoming more accessible to new developers and that my background in infrastructure management and the cloud provider market will help TYPO3 become both easier to adopt as well as better prepared for modern operational challenges.
